It’s been a minute.
It’s been longer than a minute really, and it feels actually quite tasking sitting down to write a newsletter, even a casual one such as this one, as I feel out of practice, but this is like working out, that first trip to the gym is always the hardest, but then you get a flow.
Last time we published a newsletter was just before we started production on our debut feature Dali. Of course, Dali has been the main event of the last month and a half, we’ve now wrapped, and I can’t get into details, both because the timing isn’t right, and also because if I started reflecting on what it was like to make this movie I would never finish writing this newsletter.
The highlights: everything went very very well, we had an incredible team behind us that just knocked it out of the park, and I couldn’t be happier with what we have. It’s honestly magical this even happened to begin with and the fact that it happened well, the fact that we had no major setbacks or issues, is truly unbelievable and just goes to show how valuable it is to choose good people to work with.
Dali is currently in post, I’m deep in first assembly and just rummaging through takes and outtakes. Post is going very well so far too - the assembly at the moment is not anywhere near ready, it’s nowhere near a rough cut even, but we’re on schedule and everything is running smoothly now, too. We have some deeply talented people working on the post-production of the film and I’m excited to collaborate with them further.
Dali remains the focus for the near future. Look Aside will be slowly transitioning to bigger projects, both in scale and length, which is a good thing, so there will be less consistent releases, but the releases that do come out will be — next level. Quality over quantity for the near future, and as we navigate making this feature and making it as insanely good as it can be.
We do have a few things in the woodworks for the near future too, of course. Work is continuing on Daniel Lipton’s short film Sing For Your Supper, which is a stunning script and our most visually challenging short yet. We’re also in talks to work on a few further shorts from external writers. There’s one other simple project I have in mind to make beginning of 2024, but I can’t confirm that, or anything else at the moment either. But things are actively brewing. And we have some exciting company developments ahead — yes — things are brewing. Busier than ever.
Now, I’m back to the editing board. Will be back soon to chat some more exciting stuff. I will do a long Dali production update in due time, too. Love you all.
