We’re so thrilled to finish off the week by showcasing OUT OF THE GREY by Marta Baidek as part of our SHORT OF THE MONTH curatorial collection.
OUT OF THE GREY | SHORT OF THE MONTH - June ‘25:
Laura, a pregnant environmental refugee, is forced to leave her haven in the hope of finding medical support and safety for her unborn baby. The film touches on present-day issues such as the cost of living, global warming, and the refugee crisis in an inhospitable world.

A beautiful exploration on the meaning of home, motherhood, identity, and survival in a dystopian crisis. Marta Baidek not only manages to develop these themes, but also crafts a dense and fully self-sustainable story within the short film format: which is a very difficult task. The sci-fi genre is particularly challenging to work in when making a short film and it’s quite rare that a short sci-fi project not only looks incredible and evokes emotion in the viewer, but also expands on tropes in the genre.
